Eugen d'Albert Interpretation Award Winner
Korean born pianist Sonya Bach has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls both in recitals and with orchestras in Barcelona, Brno, Budapest, Chicago, London, Monte Carlo, Moscow, New York, Paris, Seoul, Zurich and among others.
She has studied with world renowned pianists such as Alicia de Larrocha and Lazar Berman. The schools she attended include Ye Won Arts School in her native Korea, the Juilliard School, Accademia Pianistica "Incontri col Maestro" of Imola, Italy and Academia Marshall in Barcelona, Spain.
Some of her notable appearances include a recital promoted by the Government of Catalunya in Spain for the survivors of the Ravensbrück women's concentration camp and an invitation of HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum to inaugurate classical concert at the Community Theatre and Arts Centre in Dubai, UAE.
The screened Jury was particularly impressed by her interpretation of Bach/Busoni's Chaccone, dedicated to Eugen d'Albert, which has shown perfection and profound emotional introspection. In addition, she has demonstrated extraordinary virtuosity and mastery in performance of Chopin's 12 Etudes Op. 10 and during performance of Balakirev's Islamey, which is considered one of the most demanding piano literature ever written.
